RaceManPro History

RaceManPro is Windsurfing Race Management Shareware

With developmental costs of $750,000, RaceManPro is definitely not freeware! Although we invite you to download and try RaceManPro, we also ask you to be fair and send in your annual user fee of $25 for each year you use the program. We think that's a very fair and nominal fee. To register the program, send your name, organization, address, phone number, fax number and e-mail address to:

UPGRADING THE PLATFORM

You may be wondering why we don't upgrade Access 2.0 to the latest version. At the present time, RaceManPro runs under the greatest possible number of operating systems: WINDOWS 3.x; WINDOWS 9x; WINDOWS NT & 2000; and IBM'S OS/2 (under WIN/OS2). It should also run on Windows XP and Apple Mac (using Connectix's Virtual PC) but we haven't tested these ourselves.

If we were to upgrade to the latest version of Access or Windows, we would reduce the number of operating systems supported. Rather than become more platform restrictive, we probably should be looking at becoming truly platform independent and going for something like Java. However, the cost to upgrade our present platform or change to another platform is prohibitive without major sponsorship.

ONE LAST WORD

Windsurfing Race Management has never fit into a worldwide standardized format and probably never will. I guess that's just part of the "human condition". RaceManPro offers associations around the world a program with ALL possible viable options. If you would like to do it differently than RaceManPro allows, most likely you really don't need to do it! You might be amazed to learn how many requests we have gotten to add a certain "unique scoring protocol" or "feature" or "rule change". Often we coded the new idea and tested it and to date, every new idea made scoring more complex but never more accurate!!! The K.I.S.S. Rule (Keep It Simple) is still the best way to go and sometimes I fear RaceManPro is already way beyond simple!

In my experience conducting windsurfing events, both small and large, RaceManPro did everything I could possibly need to do ... and then some. Then we added in the requests of other respected race directors around the world. The result is that RaceManPro includes every possible viable event option (all the rest we consider not viable). However, in the process, RaceManPro became rather complex at first glance. One of the greatest challenges for the programmer is to clearly describe what YOU do in your particular race management style in such a way that you understand what RaceManPro needs to know in order to work properly. PLEASE STUDY THE "RACE COMMITTEE HELP ARTICLES" BEFORE TRYING TO SET RaceManPro's EVENT OPTIONS! Once you master the logic, setting up your event will be much easier!

Note: the IMCO code is totally obsolete and does not reflect recent rule changes. In an effort to get RaceManPro back on line, I didn't take the time to remove all the IMCO code. Future editions will correct this ... should there even be a future edition.
