Chapter 44. Think About Your Health Before You Have To!

Many people take their health for granted. Then, when they lose their health,

They tend to make others responsible for that loss.

They tend to make others responsible if they are to regain it.

They tend to make others responsible if they fail.

Yet, according to Dr. W. Fogge, M.D., writing in the Journal of the American Medical Association (1985),

"In the coming decades, the most important determinants of health and longevity will be the personal choices made by each individual."

Clearly we all are responsible for our own health, or lack of it. Learning to handle feelings will go a long way to reduce, alleviate or control unwanted Class 4 Stress Symptoms but it cannot be a substitute for treating the body fairly in the physical (EXERCISE) or nutritional (DIET) areas!

Stress management should begin with:

A BALANCED DIET of healthy, nutritious food chosen from the major food groups.

MINIMAL AMOUNTS (30-40 grams a day) of sugar, fats and oils, the known harmful substances. Read food labels to determine amounts in the food you eat ... or if you want to keep everything really simple, avoid food that needs a label!

A NATURAL FOOD SUPPLEMENT to guarantee nutritional intake.

MODERATE EXERCISE like walking 20-45 minutes a day, or swimming.

Combine these with Stress Reduction Through Honesty in Communication and you'll have the best possible results.

The Standard American Diet Is Still S.A.D.

In 1971, I began supplementing my teaching salary of $541/month (which included driving a school bus before and after school) with income from my part time Shaklee Products business. Two years later, the business had grown so much I resigned my teaching position. For the next 21 years, that business was my primary source of income, until I retired in 1992. Early on I learned that the Standard American Diet (S.A.D.) was in really sad shape. Regretfully, so was I since I was a product of the S.A.D. When I cleaned up my dietary act and began supplementation, my health improved so much that I've been a regular user of food supplements ever since. Today the S.A.D. is even sadder than it was back then.

Here's a good way to guide your thinking in terms of your daily diet:
